In the season before Whistler removed the Orange chair, it sat unused, with snow piling up on it. IN January of 2008 I competed in the Deep Winter photo contest that Whistler used to do, and at the end of a long day of shooting I was riding past when I saw this scene.

I have a long history with the Orange Chair. I grew up on it as a member of the WMSC. I watched my heroes on the world cup downhill from it, I rode it with my first girlfriend, and we transferred Juicy Fruit gum from our mouths to its towers on the end of our ski poles. I also swore at some kook running our gates and had to write an apology letter to Dave fucking Murray, who was also a hero, and a bit of a big deal. The run is still named after him.

So anyway, This scene struck me and I knew that soon it would be gone forever, so I made this photo for myself as a keepsake of my youth. But it represents a lot of different things to different people, so here it is today.
